Text Box: Welcome to the new column! This is meant to be a regular feature in our BVHA newsletter to let you all know about discoveries on the food front; restaurants, eating events and food related services! Mostly because I like to try new things and share my experiences, so here goes…

Some of you may have heard of Dinners Ready by now. There was an article in the Daily Messenger in January and WHAM 13 recently did a segment! I learned about this ‘Dinners Ready meal preparation place’ from Muriel Coleman back in March but just recently got over there to check them out. It’s a new business on upper Main Street in Canandaigua, owned and operated by some fun-loving sibs, Scott McWilliams and Tami Bradbury.

I digress. What they do at Dinners Ready is what I want to tell you about, and it’s way better than sliced bread*!

Dinners Ready is a meal-assembly kitchen with several customers in mind. Busy, time-challenged families, empty-nesters learning to cook for only 1 or 2, active retirees, and health conscious devotees who want fresh ingredients and home cooked meals without the time or inclination to do all the shopping and chopping! Even weight watchers can find reference to conversion points with the Dinners Ready meals.
It’s easy: There are actually 3 ways to get meals ready:

  1. Schedule a session, go to the Dinners Ready meal-assembly store and put together the meals that you have selected from the menu of 16 varieties each month. You get a discount of 5% when you make it yourself. And, get this; you could even make a party out of it! Gather 5 friends, order your meals online, and schedule the Prep Party! Yes, you may take a bottle of wine, and whoever hosts the party gets 50% off their meals.
  2. They do it for you. Go on line and choose a minimum of 2 dinners, and they will be assembled for you. Then, you just stop by and pick them up. Easy-peasy!
  3. Just stop by for a Grab and Go like I did. After perusing all the meal choices, I picked Chicken Fajitas for 2. It only took Scott three minutes to gather all the ingredients and bag them up. Meanwhile back at the ranch, it only took 20 minutes to get it from the Ziploc bags to the table. And the best news is, Bill Ryan really liked it! He’s also thinking this is a great option for himself when I am off traveling somewhere.

It’s also very budget conscious. Meals for two average about $14.00. Scott says that the price per serving ranges from $4.50 to $6.00, so you really can feed a family of four for about 20 bucks. How great is that!

So, check them out! You can find Dinners Ready in the Boca Commons Plaza at 2375 Route 332. Call them at 585-396-3663, or go online at www.dinnersready.com.

If anyone wants to join me for a prep party, just give me a ring and I’ll set it up!

Happy, healthy eating,
Candace Ryan

*Chew On This Post Script:
Ever wonder where “the greatest thing since sliced bread” came from?
The popular use of the phrase derives from the fact that Wonder Bread, the first mass-marketer of sliced bread as a product, launched an ad campaign in the 1930’s touting the innovation.
Wikipedia says that the phrase is the ultimate depiction of “innovative achievement and American know-how" but it is also a commonly used phrase in the UK. "The greatest thing since sliced bread" (and variations thereof) is used when praising an invention or development. Sliced bread appears to be something of an arbitrary selection as the benchmark against which later inventions should be judged.
